Movie Review: Road Kill

Synopsis: Originally known as "Road Train" in Australia, it's a supernatural thriller about a group of teenagers menaced by a driver-less big rig while in the Australian outback.

So this sounds kind of cool right? Wrong. It does start out very nicely with a bit of an ode to the classic movie "Duel" and from the synopsis I thought it might be a bit like Stephen King's "Maximum Overdrive" meets "Joy Ride" but after the cool first 10 minutes or so.... it mostly goes straight to the crapper.

The coolest part of the movie is the big road train itself, and guess what? IT'S PARKED MOST OF THE MOVIE! It's got some pretty bad acting, annoying characters who behave stupidly and a silly plot which all help bring it to a slow crawl. There are just way too many "WTF" moments that don't make any sense and are never explained. And the main weapon used in the film is a gun. A gun. Is this a horror film or the nightly news? I hate that.

But, I must say this too. ***Spoilers ahead! Stop reading if you care.*** Although never explained, here's what it seems is going on and it's actually kind of cool... the truck possesses people and the trailers are a gateway to hell, hence a 3-headed dog hood ornament (Cerberus guards the gates of hell). The truck runs on blood and it possesses people and has them feed others to it for fuel. It searches people out and is an endless cycle. ***end spoilers***

So yeah, in the end, if I'm right about all that, it's sort of fun and a bit original. Doesn't make up for a lot of the pitfalls but I must say that does help and it's not as bad as if you don't figure that out. They do try to explain all that in the film, but it's never spelled out and I think is just a bit confusing. People who don't want to be spoon fed just might really like it though.

5/10
