Movie Review: Limitless

Synopsis: A writer (Bradley Cooper) takes an experimental drug, NZT-48, that allows him to use 100 percent of his mind. As he takes Wall Street by storm, his accomplishments bring him to the attention of people willing to do anything to get their hands on his stash of NZT-48.

A pretty fun movie overall, it doesn't exactly get deep with the moral implications of super intelligence like it possibly should have, but that might have weighed it down a bit. Nor are the characters particularly well developed or deep. But it is very engaging and intriguing from beginning to end and is actually quite original, especially in this era of sequels and remakes, which is quite refreshing.

Bradley Cooper is very good in the lead role I thought, and the scenes where he and Robert DeNiro share time are fantastic.

There's a good bit of adrenalized action as well as it plays like an action-thriller once the set-up is established. There's a nice style to it and the pace is quick enough to keep the action junkies happy. If you think too long on many of the plot points it'll leave a lot of loose ends, so I just sort of had to disconnect my brain to get the maximum enjoyment from it and not overthink things. It's just a fun, smarth, fresh film if you do. Definitely worth a watch.

For the record, it's based on the 2001 novel The Dark Fields by Alan Glynn.

7.5/10
