Gina Carano Goes Haywire on Channing Tatum's Tush
It looks like a Haywire trailer finally popped up online over the weekend. Why do you care? Well maybe you don't, but I do because that's the movie featuring Gina Carano, former Strikeforce ladies champ who also appeared as the Gladiator "Crush" on American Gladiators. She hasn't fought in the cage since dropping the belt to Cristiane Santos way back on August 15, 2009.I really didn't have high hopes when I first heard of her signing on for this project but then I heard that Haywire is directed by Steven Soderbergh and stars big names like Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas, so I'd think it should be pretty high quality. The trailer looks like she's going to kick all sort of ass in it, as she does to Channing Tatum here. Sweet.
Synopsis: A black ops super soldier (Carano) seeks payback after she is betrayed and set up during a mission by her own agency.
Welcome To Where Time Stands Still
More live Metallica from the tour, this time doing "Welcome Home (Sanitarium) " live in Halifax, Canada on July 14th.
This song, from the album Master of Puppets, is one of my top 5 Metallica favorites. James Hetfield himself said he actually wrote this as tribute to the film One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, a classic film. It was Metallica's last single to feature bassist Cliff Burton before his death in 1986.

Movie Review: Captain America: The First Avenger
Synopsis: After being deemed unfit for military service, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) volunteers for a top secret research project that turns him into Captain America, a superhero dedicated to defending America's ideals.Yet another origin story of an old comic book hero that I started reading over 30 years ago, I was impressed with the way they handled the whole underdog/little guy aspect and made it very interesting. What else I really liked about it was the whole retro feel it had to the movie. There was a lot of War War II nostalgia and it really felt like a period piece. I thought it all had a very "Raiders of the Lost Ark" feel to it, and that's a good thing.
Chris Evans ended up being the perfect choice for Captain America. In the early origin scenes where he plays a 90 lb weakling, the special effects are so fantastic you'd think he's really a scrawny little dweeb. Once he gets injected with the Barry Bonds' juice though he become a pumped-up, patriotic ass-kicker of the highest degree. Yet still he's sort of got a nice, sensitive side even with the rugged exterior.
For the fans of these comic book movies I think there is plenty of action and enough comic references to keep them pleased. It's got Bucky Barnes, Tony Stark's father plays a central role and the Red Skull is your evil villain of the day, and of course you get your Nick Fury bit at the end. Tommy Lee Jones is great as Colonel Phillips. Stan Lee gets his usual cameo.
The movie has nice continuity and a quick pace. They work a lot of story and action in a short time and it keeps the film moving. Cap's love interest, Peggy Carter, and he have nice chemistry together and it never takes over and turns him into a pathetic puppy-dog-eyed whinebag like say Spiderman. He's not distracted and still ready to punch people bad-mouthing the U.S. of A. in the face instead of pining away like a high-school kid.
A very tight, entertaining comic book movie that leaves me wanting The Avengers to hurry up and open, or to just see a "man out of time" sort of sequel to this movie.

Eric Church Is My Homeboy
Eric Church's new CD, Chief, drops this Tuesday, July 26th so you might as well check out his latest music video for his track "Homeboy" because something tells me you'll be hearing a lot from this guy. His last 4 singles have gone top 20 on the country charts and this one is just all kinds of catchy.

The Call of Metallica
How about Metallica blasting "The Call Of Ktulu" from Amneville, France on July 11, 2011? Oui, I believe I will sir. Merci.
From the CD Ride The Lightning, the idea of the song is based upon H. P. Lovecraft's book The Shadow Over Innsmouth which was first introduced to the rest of the band by Cliff Burton. The song's name was taken from one of H.P. Lovecraft's main stories featuring Cthulhu, The Call of Cthulhu, which was written in 1928 for the magazine Weird Tales. It's also the last song to include songwriting credit for Dave Mustaine.
