Emirates
Shout out to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in the Emirates! Many of my original training partners, from Brasil, live and teach the art in the Emirates. These guys are awesome and crossed the ocean to strengthen BJJ around the world. It sparked years ago with the ADCC, now the art has grown to become a curriculum in the schools and culture. *Wallid Ismael, myself and Carlos Santos. The pic was taken during training at Clube Carlson Gracie in 1999. Wallid was black belt and I was purple, and Carlos was brown belt. A black belt for many years now, Carlos is a great professor and runs the BJJ system in the Emirates.
After the split, Wallid remained at the Carlson Gracie, while Carlos and I took part in the launch of Brazilian Top Team. We studied and battled BJJ for many years, day in day out. We competed in every championship and won gold at so many. In the warm-up area, getting ready to destroy our enemies, and that we did. Brown belts at the Pan American in 2001. Carlos was a great warrior, and I always knew he'd go on to create an empire and become a great master.
